Haitian Heritage Month 2023: Made in Miami

Made in Miami is a four part series that looks into the July 7, 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise and the connections between the killing and South Florida. Eleven individuals are currently in custody in Miami, one of whom recently pleaded guilty. Ms. Charles presentation will discuss her reporting on this international "Whodunit", how the idea for the series came about and the various components: the plot development from a kidnapping to a killing; the network of people allegedly involved and how they are connected; the history of Haiti and how it has brought us to the present day issue of whether to send foreign troops or not and; the story on why two dozen former Colombian soldiers would spend over a month in Haiti without getting paid and; still go through with the mission after being told it had changed from an abduction to a murder.
